After a new council was sworn in Millet was quick to reorganize its corporate structure, Oct. 24.
Members of the old council rose from their seats to yield power to the new council, a formality met with sentiment. Goodbyes and so-longs were audible from the front of the Millet council chamber.
From left to right, the new council took its post -- Rob Lorenson, Rita Hutzul, Margaret Andrade, Dave Gursky, Jane Pookhay, Myrna Lalande and Eleanor Pydde.
“Change is required in the Town of Millet,” Mayor Gursky began, noting not only dramatic changes in the composition of council, but also the high amount of voter participation.
Gursky said voters spoke loud and clear showing the people did not like the status quo.

Issues like council remuneration, subsistence, per diem, mileage and lodging as well as appointing people to various boards was tabled.
“It’s a little premature to appoint committees,” Gursky affirmed
Coun. Pydde asked, “What are you planning to change?”
Gursky replied by saying, “We shouldn’t just slot people in the same day they were sworn in.”
“Wetaskiwin is a city and they have 16 committees and we have more than 30,” Coun. LaLande interjected.
CAO Mike Storey noted 10 of the committees must be filled as dictated by the Municipal Government Act. These included the West Central Planning Agency, Seniors’ Homes and Community Housing and JEDI.
Council resolved to have a brainstorming session Oct. 30 to decide how committees should be organized.
